Andrew founded ClearGraph, a natural-language analytics company acquired by Tableau in 2017, before turning to investing. He started Flexcap to back founders the way he wished he had been backed: early, directly, and with judgment over process.

He works from New York, sits on the boards of several portfolio companies, and keeps the firm deliberately small. Flexcap doesn’t run a funnel. The founders who matter arrive through other founders.

Maia co-founded Nav.it, a financial-wellness company acquired by The Fintex Group in 2025, and leads MALIAM, her family’s multigenerational family office. She has sat on both sides of the table: building a company, and allocating the capital that backs others.

Alex is co-founder and CEO of Mach9, the San Francisco geospatial-AI company turning raw LiDAR into engineering-grade maps. A Carnegie Mellon-trained roboticist and NASA Space Technology Research Fellow, he built nuclear-decontamination robots for the Department of Energy under Red Whittaker and worked on Crew Dragon at SpaceX, until it became clear the robotics problems he kept solving were really surveying problems.

Andrew holds a Stanford CS PhD in deep learning, advised by Andrew Ng and Dan Jurafsky. His research has been cited roughly 27,000 times; the IMDB sentiment dataset and the Leaky ReLU activation, both from his papers, are still standard equipment across the field.

He has founded twice and exited twice: Roam Analytics, the healthcare-NLP company acquired by Parexel, and Pointable, the Flexcap-backed enterprise-retrieval company acquired by Apple in 2025. In between he built speech and autonomy systems inside Apple’s Special Projects Group; today he is VP of AI at micro1 and teaches spoken language processing at Stanford.
